Ramona Thompson- A Poem

Let Snakes Remain Strangers

Stay far back
Do not fall
So quick
Back into the past
Fought too hard
To get clean
To lay those demons
To rest
Now you gotta be tough
Tough enough
To say no
No to their temptations
Siren songs
Luring you back
To a man made Hell on Earth

Don't slitter back
Back into that hole
Avoid those fangs
All too eager to bite
Stay sober
Stay alive
There's no problems at all
If I were to tell you that
I'd be a liar
For the rest of your life
You will live
With your sickness
But if you have the will
There can be a way

Trust in a higher power
Put your faith
Into it's rightful place
No judgements
No more guilt
You're free of all those chains now
You're not a prisoner anymore
To that devil
Breath easy
And let the angels of Heaven
Watch over you
As you peacefully slumber tonight
