Michael Cluff- A Poem

Self-Deception 2 1/2

I speculated
          She was smiling sunnily
at me for my loss
                                 of twenty-two pounds
since December
                  but later I was ratcheted
by Don that he
                  heard
She
                               was commenting
coyly with condescending
                                                          eyes
on the zipper
of best black dress pleated slacks
                                                            left a bit
                                           open above halfway
from bottom to top.
