Sasha Hodes- A Poem

Sasha Hodes has written poetry for over eight years attending numerous open mic nights and poetry slams across London. His biggest inspirations are E.E Cummings, Ted Hughes, Walt Whitman, Charles Bukowski, Allen Ginsberg and many other beat poets.

The Hat to Human Theory

The hat lay on the table, odd in its shape,

A shadow in the light,

The interior covered engravings sowed in the soft fabric stating its age and make,

Other markings were from the damage of time,

The exterior had a black ribbon tied around it showing that it was somewhat stylish,

First glances at the hat showed little more than a superficial image,

A mass produced product, an item of clothing, that’s all there was,

This hat had in fact had been a part of someone’s life,

Worn on many different days,

Thrown to the floor many times,

Sat on numerous different heads,

A fascinating history of its own.

The man sat beside that very table, odd in his figure,

A shadow in the light,

The man had deep set wrinkles and dark skin stating his age and race,

Others markings were from the damage of time,

He wore a black T shirt and black jeans showing that he was somewhat stylish,

First glances at this man showed little more than a superficial image,

One of the masses, a cog of society, that’s all there was,

This man in fact had been a part of someone’s life,

Lived many different days,

Fallen down many times,

Met numerous different people,

A fascinating story of his own to tell.
