Dead Snakes Praying
You are surrounded by them
Demons
Plotting and scheming
To get back in
Under the world's skin
Fangs just grinding together
Seeking that one weak mortal moment
For the darkness
To snuff out the light
Do you ever hear
Voices that shouldn't be there
Temptations calling out your name
Drugs and drinking of the past
Reaching out to you
In your new sober life
To knock down
All you've so carefully built
Do you ever taste
The ashes of ruin
Reforming in your mouth
Fatal and vile
Licking you
From the inside out
The craving reawakened
Your soul
Up fro grabs
Caught between Heaven and Hell
Yeah, do you ever
Hear, feel, see or taste
Those dead snakes praying
Praying they can get you
Addicted
Just one more last time
2016 Ramona Thompson
Lovely poem as usual. And no one is messing with you
ReplyDeleteRamona, not a chance. You outsmarted them a long time ago......
Addiction refiguring to conviction!
