Richard Schnap- A Poem

BROKEN WINGS

I listen to the rain
And think of my mother
Leaning over me

Whispering my name
Over and over
As tears filled her eyes

She was a sad woman
Married to a brute
From an evil family

Who she tried to rescue
From his pit of despair
Till he pulled her in with him

Now when it rains
I remember that night
When she hovered over me

A crippled angel
Unable to take me
And fly away
