Joseph Donnelly- A Poem

ready your riot gear

Put on your vintage 1979 jean jacket, Guy,
And pin another dead president to the sleeve,
Ready your Mohawk with hair gel,
If they don’t ask, say egg whites,
You’re punk rock, say it to the mirror.
“I’m punk rock”

Cell phone: check
Studded belt: check
Cab money: check
Dead Kennedys t-shirt: ripped

You wish you could live in that rat filled collective,
Play shows to pay for rent,
I wish I could too,
But the clothes will sell it enough,
And the talk can solidify your existence,
Within this dying scene of punks,
They think about your lifestyle,
You think about your life choices,
As the band clicks into their set,
