J.J. Campbell- Two Poems

weed, a tourism industry

to everyone that
says laughter is
the best medicine

please come to
colorado and see
my boy hector

laughter can't
hold the balls
of this shit here

the old woman doing sign language

a bleary eyed
sociopath who
gave up on
understanding
the world when
his best friend
beat him to the
punch on planning
the next holocaust

he never felt truly
alone until he was
stuck in a crowded
room of people

each trying to
be the first one
to be recognized
by whomever the
powers that be
deemed to be
important

he was too busy
wondering what
color panties the
old woman doing
sign language
was wearing

he'd laugh at all the
stories he could tell
his demons about the
silly little conquest
trying to find that
elusive answer

J.J. Campbell recently turned 39 years old. He's convinced that he has now lived 12 years longer than he should have. He's been widely published over the years, most notably at Nerve Cowboy, Chiron Review, Zygote in My Coffee, Fearless, and Underground Voices. His book Sofisticated White Trash (Interior Noise Press) makes for good kindling in the winter. You can find J.J. most days on his blog, evil delights. (http://evildelights.blogspot.com)
