Robert Demaree- Senryu Sequence

CONTINUING CARE
Senryu Sequence

The Good Life

Modem light blinking:
Second cup of strong coffee:
Retirement morning.

Bicycle

Retirement home dusk:
A bicycle built for two,
Rear seat riderless.

Seminar

At Golden Meadows,
The end-of-life class cancelled
For lack of interest.

Community

The old form quick bonds,
Fast friendships at Golden Pines:
Short-term investment.

Seniors Decorate for Christmas

Putting up the lights:
Cedar trees getting taller,
But we are shrinking.

Estate Sale

Nursing home tag sale:
Death, feebleness walk the aisles:
Luggage, old golf clubs.

Older Drivers

Buicks ten years old
Blue-haired ladies peering out
Over steering wheels.

Water Event

At the swimming pool
No seniors in the water
Pool watcher asleep.

Content

Try telling poets
No more poems about death:
They’re out of business.
