John Hayes- Two Poems

Overpopulation

When there's not sufficient forage
some of the wildebeest starve
then there's food enough.
It's different with people
charities provide,
and the hungry
maintain malnutrition.

Sometimes people go to war
and kill each other off
but even then

with less people
there's still malnutrition.

It must be the system.

The New Stadium

Money gushed forth
to build the new stadium
brought profits to the few
screaming passion to the press.

It's proper the money
wasn't squandered on housing.
People don't mind
sleeping on the sidewalk

or in a shelter
just so long as
their team
has a modern ballpark.

John gives poetry readings, acts and directs in Community Theater. He was a scurvy looking corpse on Homicide and a shopper on WIRE. Seven of his one-act plays were produced. Dark Metre, The Meadow, Aoife's Kiss, Thema, Whitefish Review, Modern Haiku, Liquid Imagination, Welter, Premonitions, Big Pulp are some of the magazines that published his work. http://mysite.verizon.net/vze7w3iq/johnhayessculpture/
