Paul Tristram- Three Poems

Paul Tristram is a Welsh writer who has poems, short stories, sketches and photography
published in many publications around the world, he yearns to tattoo porcelain bridesmaids
instead of digging empty graves for innocence at midnight; this too may pass, yet.

Buy his books ‘Scribblings Of A Madman’ (Lit Fest Press)
‘Poetry From The Nearest Barstool’ at

And a split poetry book ‘The Raven And The Vagabond Heart’ with Bethany W Pope

You can also read his poems and stories here!

She left me alone for 4 hours
with all these crates of beer
and words that flow
like segmented streams
of waterfalls
and hopes and dreams and wishes
too obscure and too real
and too fucking fantastic
to breathe properly.
I love her, she’s perfect!
And so I got drunk
and wrote a poem.

One Kiss Shy Of An Heartbreak

If she could only nail him
to right here, right now.
Keep his wandering eye shut
with prayers and persistent,
wilful, thought incantations.
Hold his shoulders
in her shaking hands just so,
for more than just a tearful
goodbye moment.
But even though
the ‘Fight Or Flee’
is busy brawling inside her head.
She can feel the spell about to break,
body compression easing
from a fuzzy lullaby to Fall.
‘A Burglary Is About To Occur’
and ‘Help, They’ve Breached The Gates’
is screaming and clawing
insanely within her petrified mind
as he lessens the grip
and tries to un-vice the niceness.
Just one more second,
she leans precariously
like a breaking butterfly upon a precipice.
Two more seconds, please,
a miracle can happen that quick,
a change of heart can occur just like that.
Stop struggling an instant longer,
I am trying to save you
from souring the beautiful flower
you magically bloomed within me.

I Saw You When You Weren’t Looking

Revealing your true colours with a sly smile,
betraying me in a heartbeat
and selling your own damaged soul
for thirty minutes of unfaithful silver.
I vomited you out and stuttered away,
freer with each and every passing milestone.
There are prisons and asylums
full to the brim with people urged into
the wrong move at exactly the right time.
But true strength isn’t in ‘Violence’
but in ‘Overcoming’.
You are never losing anyone important
by discovering their underhanded ways,
you are actually being given the gift
of knowledge and an unquestionable claim
to sever all emotional ties and walk away.
I am not one of your ‘Victims’
and you have a few of those,
you collect them like trinkets on a bracelet.
‘You’ are ‘Your’ biggest ‘Victim’
and you are karmically bound up in that.
