Linda M. Crate- Three Poems

starving for light

starved for light
they swallow the darkness
mistakenly thinking
it could save them from
themselves,
but it only intensifies
their hunger.

living death

riddle me this, riddle me that
not quite sure how they
think hatred can drive out hatred
because if violence only begets
violence wouldn't the same
be said of hatred?
yet they'd rather pluck the eyes
of their enemies than treat the ailment
in their own hearts and souls,
and improve their own
selves;
it is a sad world we live in
when to be alive
you must be dead.

lighthouse girl

refuse to be another trend
just another soul
sucked into venom and hatred
it's easy to lose one's temper
blame the problems of
yourself upon
others,
but i take responsibility for my own
failures because we all have
both strengths and weaknesses;
don't trust me
to give you a lie when you ask me
for a truth
this world is already full of enough darkness
i endeavor to be the light.
