Detritus
Among eucalyptus, empty dunes,
the homeless lie motionless,
wrapped in newspaper, rags,
untethered human driftwood
washed ashore,
unwanted detritus.
Sun rises.
Joggers, bicyclists
pass unmoving mounds
beneath ragged blankets.
Leashed dogs lift their legs,
mark half-empty booze bottles,
filthy back packs,
society’s editorial comment.
