Jay Passer- A Poem

I LIKE TO FORGET

I like to forget
that I’m human animation
so I suck down vodka
mouth of alley at North Beach
While commerce
commences
and gravediggers
hammer at the
streets
Something
rising from the dregs
From the ashes
Broke bottles
and cigarette butts
Something noxious and disturbing
The delivery trucks
slaughtered swine and
Chinese tchotchkes
I’m not sure I know what it is
Neither do the
tourists
or the crows
or the rats
Everything stumbling around in the
odium
of broad daylight
