Michael Marrotti- A Poem

"Jesus Is Not Needed"

Jesus isn't needed
in my heart
to become
a better person
Opening that door
would only close
another
Like the door
to my dealer

This wallet
is opened
Blood is flowing
The heart
is beating
like a drum
No need
to pray
when those prayers
go unanswered
My dealer
never ignores me
Always picks
up the phone

No delusions
only truth
My faith
in this feeling
though costly
is liberating
To have faith
in you
Is to renounce
control

This
megalomaniac
is repulsed
By the thought
of ever walking
down that
straight and narrow
suppressive road

  1. Faith can be a great healer. Drug addiction kills and destroys lives every day. I think drug addiction is a disease of the brain. It should be treated as such. Person's suffering from this hell should be treated with dignity and respected. They are humans that have fallen prey to this evil. May God Bless and Protect Them.

    1. I'm all for Christianity if it makes for a better person. Some people need it in order to be decent. I have no problem with that. As for drugs, they can be inspired and just as cathartic as anything else. My bottom line is: whatever works best, pursue that route. Thanks for reading!!
