Richard Schnap- A Poem

GAMBLERS ANONYMOUS

Sometimes I see it
In the eyes of cashiers
A roulette wheel spinning
Where every number’s the same

And sometimes again
In those of cabdrivers
A pair of dice landing
With a face that speaks death

And sometimes once more
Within telemarketers
A slot machine promising
And then changing its mind

And sometimes they’ll win
With a thrill that soon dwindles
For the mastery of one’s fate
Remains a loser’s game
