AFTER QUASIMODO’S ‘The Incomparable Earth’ & “The Brussels’
Attack” March 22nd, 2016

What breadth, Salvatore! Fugue of figure
And stanzas fisting through
Rubensonic utterings beyond
The travailing sun’s palette.

Deprivation’s exile: ‘Dialogue is more
Necessary than science.’ Well, that’s
No way to overthrow a known
False generation’s blundering...

On the decadence of language, brassed
To a tee, you tattooed out
“I modify the world!” This, appendixed
To the false and true green.

In the land of the dead guitar your
Fingers of fire struck
                        The discord
Then grew into wounds
Of touch tender symposium.

Stylized now as the most noble of tramps
And Milan’s bread winner,
What siren crosses Sicily’s Bosphorus?
Marooned islander played down

So long, you reach once more for the boy
Whose youth was a flowering
                         Wreath – likened only
To the Byzantine Madonna’s
Phosphorus hair...
