A Pretext for Absorption

Perhaps the greatest thing
a poem can be
is a pretext for absorption.

An excuse,
a framework,
an introduction,
a preliminary passage
to deeper ruminations
and beyond,
to contemplation itself.

An entry point, if you will,
and more importantly,
if you are not so willing.

A vehicle,
an organized religion in a nutshell,
a time bomb planted today
that might take decades,
lifetimes to go off,
the longer the better.

  1. A painting can have the same effect. A poem can
reveal itself to the reader. Of course, we all
have our perceptions. We all can interpret a poem
    differently.
