Leticia Garcia Bradford- Three Poems

The comfort of my brother-in-law's father's sweater,
June rain instead of April,
Eggs harden
Potatoes soften
Consumed by boiling water,
Bottleshock
Brown turns to gold
Give me beer instead of wine,
Sheltered in the Bistro
Where no one judges you,
If only life could be that way,
I broke up with my boyfriend again
                     Today

You don't want to take in the mirror because the mirror is not real.
A reflection of things past
No future to behold
Sweet nothingness in my ear
Sprouts images in my head
What grand adventure we must partake
Spartans, Athenians lend me your fear
Of a great war relied upon
Join us in the honor of your souls
Lest we die one more day, again

The conundrum
Fallen who knows where?
Thread unthreaded
           pulled
           dangled
Unbeknownst gives way, breaks free
What will others think?
That I’m not put together?
The misfortune matters
Only when the breeze blows the coat carefree
with wisps of wind catching a chill
Only when the blouse comes busting out or
         the pants below the knees

Everything doesn’t need perfection
Practically perfect
Is perfect all the way
I’m okay
Standing proud
                       with
                             my
                                  intimates
                                               exposed
