Ramona Thompson- Two Poems

Forked Tongue

Standing in between the two paths
Before you
It's simply not going to work
Sooner or later
You gotta make grow up
Make a choice
One or the other
You can't have both
Can't have your cake and eat mine too

Good or evil?
Pick a side
No more going back and forth
This dance is at the end
Time's up
Be a man
Not a snake
Hiding in the grass
And oh no!
Don't you dare talk back
Pull those fangs back
Listen, just listen
Maybe you'll learn something
Finally

So full of venom
Lucky either side still wants you
Mr. Loan Wolf
Think you're so bad ass
Can't make it
In this life
Without a family
Now is the moment
One way or another
Here and now
It all changes forever

So what's it gonna be?
Us or them?
On which side do you fall?
Are you a peace lover or a war maker?
You're with them
And against us
Or you're with us
And against them
Step over now
Right or left?
Devils or angels?
Whose song is it gonna be?
Speak now, forked tongue
And at last
Know some kinda inner peace
If you can

It's Raining Snakes

Lost in a social haze of social media
Falling to our knees
Before more and more
False reality show gods
How much deeper into the cesspool will sink?
Our mortals quickly dying
Sleeping around
All the protection in the world useless
If we refuse to use it
Curses falls from our mouths
Into the open impressions of the young around us
Dear Lord
What a world

We're our own worst enemies
A cancer out of control
A monster unleashed
Devouring city after city
Gone wild
Cause we've forgotten
Or so it seems
Just what it means
To be a God fearing
Jesus loving mankind
Good Lord
Why and where do we keep going wrong?

Venom seems to run
Deep in our veins
Addicted to our cell phones
Dazed by our computer screens
Say hello to the new generation of zombies
Sweet savior above
Is this really the future we wanna leave to our kids?

It's raining snakes
Yeah, we're drowning in serpents
Slowly becoming our own worst fears realized
Passing our poison
On down from man to woman to child
And we don't care
Don't give not a damn
And why would we?

When it's so obvious
How much we adore
Biting at each other
With the sharpest of fangs
Holy father
Do you still love us?
Or have we become too much of a bother?
More and more often now
I really do wonder
