Pijush Kanti Deb- Three Poems

The Extra piece of Bread

The extra piece of bread-
the neglected refugee
made by the brimful stomach
exhibits the pride and contumacy
nurtured by the egoist,
along with a few dirty flies
rotating on it;
relates the secret story
of the partial clouds
those shed extra-rainfall in the ocean
keeping the desert aside
thirsty and gloomy,
tempts diplomatically to be misused
in the formation of Hemlock-
a great follower of the cannon of equality,
to bring ocean and desert together
around the same table
to enjoy the wonderful by-product
forgetting the cause and effect
of their fortune-good or bad,
and bewitches the inelastic stones to enjoy
the greatness of the ocean
lying  on the dry sand of the desert.

Homogeneous Heads

Whenever a few heads of equal size
meet together in a parlor,
double duty is registered
for tongues and lips
allowing a temporary leave
for the standing ears,
the noisy crows-
sitting on the roofs and the trees
stop crowing,
peep the heads-
busy in beating their own drums,
through the open widows
and extend their wings in fear
to sneak away
far from the babbler’s sound pollution,
the rooms-
adjacent to the parlor
tremble in the vibration of the ego- war
ensued among the homogeneous heads
and feel comfort
when the verbal war is ended up
without putting two and two together
regarding their forgotten objective
but with the useless killing
of some lazy but priceless hours only.

A Few Wakeful Builders

A few wakeful builders like to be ever-asleep
submerging themselves
into the poking bed of tools and implements
and dream for building a rainbow
carrying a wonderful factory in the mid
situated between the two worlds-
ethical and practical
to convert the donkeys into the horses-
the urgent need of the time,
don’t mind to be unmindful
to the watching eyes,
to the sneering noses
and to the frowning faces
of some handicap wiseacres
living in both the worlds,
feel free and fare
even to beg for more tools and implements
singing and dancing
visiting door to door
ignoring the heterogeneous hosts
whether a god or a devil,
accept ambidextrously
the charity given by them-
nectar or hemlock
and use resolutely  in the building
of the rainbow along with a factory
converting of the donkeys into the horses
and at last  congratulate one another
witnessing the popular feature
of the converted horses
gainful to the good and painful to the evil.
