Marc Carver- Two Poems

HUMAN

Eventually I took the thing out of the bucket
it was a mixture of grass-seed, concrete and solvent

It had been out there in all weathers for months
I formed a base for it of broken bricks, kept it in the plastic bag.
It was still sloppy on the top so I turned it over on the bricks and pulled back the plastic bag

It was solid now, laying on top
perfect,
smooth,
but in the middle there was a crack
the perfect smoothness
 flawed
human.

LOVE AND HATE

I loved her the only way I could
it was not always good
but what are you meant to do.
I hated her as well at times.
Just like the tattooed fingers
the two come as one
