Richard Schnap- A Poem

THREADBARE

His mind was as faded
As his raggedy cap
Whose original color
Belonged to the past

And his heart was as tattered
As his frayed plaid shirt
With a stain so embedded
No soap washed it clean

And his guts were as worn
As his second hand pants
That failed to shield him
From a sudden cold wind

But his soul was as solid
As his thick woolen coat
The one thing that seemed
To always feel brand new
