Nate Maye- Three Poems

Reflecting Pool

I stopped on
the long journey
just long enough
to see myself
looking back.
I did not like the lion
image I saw
with his ugly teeth
bared at me.

Those are fancy
shades you've got
there, but mine
are magic;
They blot out
the ugly parts of life
I do not wish to see.

He's a real son
of a bitch, closing doors,
casting judgment,
but then I could be just
like him
if I were a terrible
person, I suppose.
