SOLILOQUY
Faces pass
Like wind-swept clouds
In the ceiling of the sky,
Arriving strange
But growing familiar for a time,
Until they are a part of me,
Friends whose presence
Softens hard nights,
Lovers like candles
Casting shadows on my heart,
As I become part of them
In the mirrors of their brief eyes,
Until the day will come
That I too will disappear
Taking them all with me
As they have taken me with them
Into some unknown, unseen place
Beyond the edges of the world.
Faces pass
Like wind-swept clouds
In the ceiling of the sky,
Arriving strange
But growing familiar for a time,
Until they are a part of me,
Friends whose presence
Softens hard nights,
Lovers like candles
Casting shadows on my heart,
As I become part of them
In the mirrors of their brief eyes,
Until the day will come
That I too will disappear
Taking them all with me
As they have taken me with them
Into some unknown, unseen place
Beyond the edges of the world.
