Linda M. Crate- A Poem

it wasn't me you were protecting

the pearly valor
of your smile
doesn't disguise the fact
that your heart is
far from ivory,
and you broke my heart into
daggers and shards
made me walk on hot coals
all for my own protection
of course;
you'll forgive me then if i need
to shatter your skull
for my own
protection
to pierce into every bit of open flesh
with the sword of my tongue
until i burn you worse than the gases
of venus and cut you deeper than
the rings of saturn.
