Richard Schnap- A Poem

CASTAWAYS

Where is the blind man who sang on the street
As if it was his own private concert hall?

(He vanished one day to an unknown fate
His voice soon forgotten in the noise of the world)

Where is the poor woman who fed the birds
With pieces of bread she could barely afford?

(She disappeared leaving nothing but crumbs
Swept to the gutter so the sidewalk stayed clean)

Where is the lost boy who sat with a sign
That said he was traveling but never quite where?

(He abandoned his place with his cupful of coins
As if some wild wind had taken him away)

And where is the place that they finally called home
That offered a haven for those who have none?

(A place far away that hasn’t a name
That’s buried deep within the maze of stars)
