Punku

 

Haiku-inspired poems with a punk rock and ska music theme, song titles in italics. The sequence was inspired by bands who have performed at the Rebellion Punk Festival held in the Winter Gardens (Blackpool, UK) every summer. The poems also celebrates the 40^th anniversary of punk rock in the UK after it redefined the music scene in 1976 when The Damned released the seminal single New Rose.

pogoing

around the mosh pit

sixteen again

 

why are there

no more heroes

on my radio

 

still in a rut

a homeless man snoozes

Bio

Dr Tim Gardiner is an ecologist and poet from Manningtree in Essex, UK. His haiku and tanka have been published in literary magazines including Blithe Spirit, Frogpond, and The Heron's Nest. His first collection of poetry, Wilderness, was published by Brambleby Books in 2015. He has published many scientific papers on natural history and several books, including one about glow-worms.
