Ananya S. Guha- A Poem

Birthdays

Yesterday was my birthday
it has vanished like ether
or the main road beggar
I was begging, for wishes
and all those glitches
that go with birthdays
friends forgetting
not calling, not messaging
but how could the day go?
why can't there be one more?
Like Lucifer in hell
or a kind of dalliance with
knife at flesh. Birthdays are
so ominous. Make you feel younger,
deadlier betrothed to a supple vine yard
where you are collecting grapes in basket.

Memories a casket.
And when, it goes;
you pigeon holed dungeon
you talk of age, death.
