Richard Schnap- A Poem

AFTER THE RAIN

I listen to the wind
A lonely chanteuse
On the shadowy stage
Of the cabaret of the night

Lit by a cloud-veiled moon
A fingerprint smeared
On the sable-skinned sky
Like a lover’s last caress

As I remember the words
Of a man I once knew
"When you learn to stop caring
Only then are you free"

But for now in this darkness
It is enough just to wait
And listen to the wind
Does it listen to me?
