He set out to write
The biography of a man
Known only from rumors
A vague presence
That somebody seemed
To quite remember
It was claimed he went
To a variety of schools
But no records could be found
And to have been married
To a woman who had
No memory of him at all
It was as if he was just
A character in a book
Absent from any library
Or the hero of a film
With a fictional script
That was never made
