i’ll say the fountain below
sounds like ocean waves to me
and at times i pretend those ambulance sirens
are sirens that lure my sailor’s heart
away from the shore
of that downtown tower because
it is a crescent moon tonight
and i don’t know how to love those
who made the lamplights stand
so rhythmically apart fools i am sorry
that we are all so human and i am all so
full of it now because the truth
has boxing gloves that i can’t fight and i don’t know
if i will be a man once they’re done with my breasts
but i know
i will still be a woman and i guess
those trees too needed help growing up
