Jack e Lorts- One Poem

BIO: Jack e Lorts has appeared widely, if infrequently, over the past 40+ years in such magazines as Arizona Quarterly, Kansas Quarterly, English Journal, Oregon English Journal, Arsenic Lobster and High Desert Journal, etc. More recently, his “Ephram Pratt” poems have appeared extensively in Haggard and Halloo, Elohi Gadugi, Dead Snakes and elsewhere on-line. A retired educator, he’s active in state and local Democratic politics,  served as Mayor of Fossil, OR (population 478) from 2009-2015.

Ephram Pratt Wields the Truth in Large Buckets

Broken spars
along with frequent tunneling,

makes the arbitration
of cockles & mussels

seem like catch-as-catch-can,
relaxing in slow motion,

greeting the porters
in the sleepers

like absentee
residents of Enid, Oklahoma.

Doesn't it seem
under staffed

and like silence breaking
from the bar

when all the endorphins
invade the body

of sanctuary seeking
idlers? They are walking

with brain damaged
poets, wielding

truth in large buckets,
asleep in a frost.
