Richard Schnap- A Poem

SIGN

She dreams of a white kitten
As girls with blue hair

Push wheelchairs holding souls
Whose bodies have become cages

The TV crackles and spits
As a tray of food sits uneaten

While the sounds of bells and machines
Resonate throughout the night

And when she wakes in the darkness
Gripped by a gnawing pain

A figure with the hands of a skeleton
Tells her she has to wait

But across the room in a chair
Sits the white kitten she dreamed of

As if he’s been sent to comfort her
In the house of lamentation
