Zak Parsons- Three Poems

Blue Faces

The ice cream man feeds the children as the dogs feed themselves
Drains leak down streets that stretch through austere spaces where blue faces fill the bay windows of houses
Tomorrow is today
Yesterday was the same
The ice cream man feeds the children as the dogs feed themselves

The Devil In Me

The devil perches politely on my left shoulder
But nobody knows he is there but me
He whispers to me
Words of hatred
Words of pity
Words of pain
But nobody can hear him but me

The devil perches politely on my left shoulder
Digging his claws into my flesh
Drawing blood from my brain
And searing my soul
Oh devil, sweet devil when will you go?

04:44am

Restless in my bed and restless in my mind
I’ve tried to sleep
For hours now I’ve been laying down with my eyes closed
This is the closest I get to sleep most of the time
Just a mere rest of the eyes
While my eyes may be at rest
My mind spirals off into the sunset
Those pink London sunsets
