Maureen Kingston- Two Poems

christmas pies & such

yes : the good couch lollipop’s being skippered
by an idiot : who went to the office party & ate

the swedish meatballs : who’s now using her
fingers to lice-comb the snugglie for lint balls :

wanting to bug-squish-punish all things round :
& fever weighs down the snugglie’s bell-bottomed

sleeves : too heavy : throw the pup seal overboard :
& her pie-crust head bursts from its pasty shell :

a slop shot : all of jack horner’s proud little plums
sink at once : a porcelain pocket extravaganza

the atheist superhero

has no icon : no crimson cape : no saintly
lunchbox of sacred bones : just the pulse
of his name on a live contract : promising
to shoulder : the here & now
