Paul Tristram- Three Poems

Trembling Tremendously

She once more opens up the creaking doors to her Heart.
Feels the Ice start to thaw as the inner Warmth does return.
Smiles at the beginnings of Excitement and Desire
cartwheeling dizziness through her Senses.
Palpitations wrestling with thoughts of Fornication.
Suddenly varied, multi-coloured lists of things to do.
As Winter ebbs at last away from view
She is up to her elbows in Spring-Cleaning her Feelings.
Trembling Tremendously
She lets the Little Girl housed within her Soul
peek from behind that re-enforced Wall she built
back in that Old and Desolate Emotional Fall.
Sensing and Seeing nothing but blue skies upon the horizon
She baby steps curiously out into the warmth of Courtships Spring.

From One Slope To Another

Life is a game of snakes and ladders.
There are opportunities everywhere
and pitfalls left and right
but especially straight in front of you.
Looking back upon the past
sometimes I seem to have been almost blind.
Banging into this wall and then turning
around and banging into that one.
You really do need a moral compass
and sometimes quite the opposite,
a fair bit of common-sense there
inside of your sixth sense
just to get you safely from A to B in life.
Surviving the rat traps, the snares
and the quicksand’s of today’s world
is employment all by itself.
From one slope to another
we all stumble on into the night
with only hindsight as our guide.

Doormat Blues

“You have been found guilty, by a Jury of your Peers,
of the crime of Manslaughter upon your Common-law Wife.
Accordingly, I am passing a 10 year Prison Term as Punishment
for this Crime….Do you have anything that you wish to say
before you are taken down below?” Spoke Judge Jenkins firmly
from his seat in Courtroom No. 4 of Cardiff Crown Court.

“I-I-I was sick and tired of whinging about her to everyone,
sick of always singing the ‘Doormat Blues.’
I finally had enough and I just snapped…………completely!
No more ‘Doormat Blues’…damn those….’Doormat Blues!’”
Answered the Defendant cringing violently.

“Your comments are duly noted, now take the prisoner down!”
Spoke Judge Jenkins, then rising and without a second glance
at the courtroom he left through the side door to his right
into his Chamber rooms to un-robe. Deciding upon sausage,
egg, chips and side-salad for lunch, for sometimes it did well
to eat like the Common Folk, so as to remind oneself  just how
much better than them one in fact actually was.
And with this wonderful thought he playfully half-smiled aloud
to himself as he took the marble steps down at a slick canter,
out through the private doors into the perfect Summer Sunshine.
