Paul Tristram- Three Poems

Paul Tristram is a Welsh writer who has poems, short stories, sketches and photography
published in many publications around the world, he yearns to tattoo porcelain bridesmaids
instead of digging empty graves for innocence at midnight; this too may pass, yet.

Butter Wouldn’t Melt In Your Mouth
(Nor The Truth Dare Show Its Face!)

False smiles and a poker face.
Each word that clumsily tumbles
from that vile mouth
is never even within shooting distance
of fact, truth or sincerity.
It’s just another morsel
of spat out scum-shit
under the boot heel of fraudulent
and unnecessary deception.
You’re not clever when you lie,
most children grow out of it.
Gossiping and slandering an obstacle down
takes no strength, honour or bravery
but underhandedness, cowardice and spite.
It reveals the ugly deformity
alive within your broken, useless soul.
Who in their right mind
would want to love and wrap
their caring, loyal, comforting arms
around that disgusting monster?

I Don’t Forgive Or Forget…Not No More!

You are completely dead to me now
and you and you and especially you.
I walk a lighter path,
tread an easier step through life
without your negative, twisted company.
I hear that things are going really bad
for you all, in many different ways.
I should be hissing the word ‘Karma’
through my happy, smirking lips
whilst rubbing my hands together with glee
and drinking flagons of celebratory ale
to your well deserved ruin and downfall.
But I am not even smiling in the faintest,
I feel absolutely nothing at all, I’m only
writing this down because it’s what I do.
I remember being the dog everyone kicked
when it was down, I’ve flipped and caught
the dark side of life’s coin many times
and I wouldn’t wish any of it on anyone.
I was better than you all back then
and I am far better than you all now
and with enough ‘Lessons Learnt’
under my belt to sink a fucking battleship.

Running Out Of Steam & Self Respect
Has Its Place In Personal Progress Also.

Sometimes you just have to Jeremiah Johnson it for awhile,
get yourself safely out of Dodge
and into a bit of distance and solitude.
Some space for quiet contemplation
will fix you right up or finish you off completely, either way,
you can’t stay under that rifle fire without going crazy.
So pull a Houdini out of your ass and disappear,
the People who care will understand, the other people don’t matter.
Do you remember that thing you used to like doing?
Actually, there were quite a few things weren’t there…see,
feel your focus shiver and shift from the magnet of negativity.
They are not winning, it is the opposite in fact
for they need you to be in the mix to be able to fuck with you.
Take some downtime, explore other things, new projects
and if and when you finally decide to come back?
Now able to see the actual ‘Woods for the Trees’
I’m absolutely sure you’ll snap the neck of this in no time at all.
