MASTERPIECES
I have read the greatest poems
Scrawled in felt-tip markers
On the walls of bathroom stalls
And I have seen the greatest portraits
Spray-painted on the boarded-up windows
Of houses scheduled for demolition
And I have heard the greatest music
From men strumming guitars on sidewalks
As strangers drop coins at their feet
And I have learned that true art
Is not sealed in mansions and museums
But in the anonymous corners of the world
I have read the greatest poems
Scrawled in felt-tip markers
On the walls of bathroom stalls
And I have seen the greatest portraits
Spray-painted on the boarded-up windows
Of houses scheduled for demolition
And I have heard the greatest music
From men strumming guitars on sidewalks
As strangers drop coins at their feet
And I have learned that true art
Is not sealed in mansions and museums
But in the anonymous corners of the world
