J.J. Campbell- Two Poems

the creepy ones

yet another one you
can't help but stare
at those haunting
eyes

she catches you

but you're old
enough now that
you don't even
bother playing
it off

you've heard stories
that some women
actually like the
creepy ones

and no matter how
many times you've
struck out

you just know that
those stories are true

the process of being erased

fading smiles meant
for luckier souls

if loneliness is a
disease you believe
they should name it
after you

you drove into town
today and saw a body
being wheeled out of
a house

you didn't know to
smile or cry with envy

old lovers are simply
figments of the
imagination
by now

and all those memories
are in the process of
being erased by
enormous amounts
of alcohol
