Richard Schnap- A Poem

LIBRARY PEOPLE

They appear from nowhere
To gather at the terminals
Like birds on a wire

Searching the Internet
As if they’re fortune tellers
Consulting crystal balls

And in the enforced silence
I hear their fingers tap
In desperate rhythms

Trying to find a sign
That will let them know
Where to go next
