Richard Schnap- A Poem

DUST TO DUST

She rented an abandoned building
In a run-down area of town
To transform it into a gallery
For artists no one else would show

Like the one who collected metal
From the ruins of factories and mills
And welded it into tall flowers
With petals of blackened rust

But the few who showed up at openings
Just barely glanced at the work
Before gathering by the refreshments
To empty the free jugs of wine

And at her final exhibit
She felt that her mission had failed
As she looked down at her invitations
The trash in the street with her name
