Ashes, but Okay

Never
hesitate
to be the
one who
starts
the fire,
and then
stands
in the
center
of it;
make
this god-
damn
world
rush to
you, and
if nobody
ever
comes then
just
burn
alone,
and
write
poetry
from the
sweet little
smoked
out spot
behind
your
charcoal
eyes—
just like
the rest of
us burnt-
up-beautiful
fuckers
do.

Concentration

"Yes," I told her,
"I love them both,
your right one and
your left one."

"Is there one of
them that you love
more than the other?"

I paused slightly, and
thought deeply to
myself—

Jesus Christ, they're
just eyes, Lady.
And you can certainly
close them now,
for all I care,
because honestly,
I feel like we both
screw each other better
with our eyes closed
tightly anyway—

“Why so quiet?” she
asked.

“I’m just thinking
again,” I told her,
as I slipped my sleeping
pants off and rolled
to her side, under
the sheets.
