enough
again
comes sundown
& it is cold here
in this room
too small to contain
my loneliness
mind gray & vacant
searching the solitude
for clues
that might unlock
this puzzle box
lost at the end
of another day
nothing left to say
that doesn’t sound
like nonsense
quiet anguish
as my imaginary
rushmore crumbles
& falls away
wrapped in my
usual disarray
feeling myself
feeling too much
re-discovering
the same old hurt
in the same old space
in the dark
my hand reaches
for a beat-up guitar--
old fingers fumble
with a random phrase
& stumble into
a new place
& i think maybe
it's just enough
to keep a small fire burning
enough to uncover
the way back
to a place
where one more day
is still good enough
I sense frustration but also acceptance. A wisdom
