a pen with red ink
an overnight rain
a morning walk
mist and moistness
a pen with red ink
she’s asleep at home, her heart, at rest
redwing blackbirds, mud daubers, prairie dogs,
cottontails, wood ducks, a blue heron,
a light wind and ripples across the lake
grama grass, aspen grove, an old cottonwood
warmth rises from the earthen dyke
yesterday, today and tomorrow

67 year old
bass player in
a pretty good
blues band
nine couples
sweaty from
dancing, a full
glass of single
malt scotch
upon the piano. .
rowdy drunks at
the bar bellow
“one more, ass-
holes!” rebel
yell from a guy
lying on the
floor, two bras
and a joint
tossed upon a
beer-soaked
stage. .
more than
enough for
an encore
