J.J. Campbell- Three Poems

your fingers dig a little deeper

sweaty kisses
at three in
the morning

frustration
clearly
setting in
for one
of us

your fingers
dig a little
deeper

soon i feel
a fist against
my chin

i'm sure you
saw that in
a movie and
thought i
might like
it

i catch the
second fist
and grab
your neck

go in a
little
deeper

either do
it right or
die trying

rush hour

watching this old
man walk in the
middle of the road

obviously upset
and lost

cars honking their
horns and giving
him the finger

no one has time
to help him

i suppose that is
why they call it
rush hour

eventually the
old man gives
up and sits down
in the middle of
the turn lane

as i watch this
from a third story
window

i can't help but
think i'll be that
old man in about
thirty years

an amazing woman in the grocery store

it was the
tight black
skirt and
the perfect
curve of
your ass
that caught
my eye

i didn't
mind the
kid with
you or
the ring
on your
finger

suddenly

i think i
need a
couple
cans of
soup as
well

J.J. Campbell is old enough to know better. He's been widely published over the years, most recently at Pink Litter, The Camel Saloon, Jellyfish Whispers, Pyrokinection, and Fuck Art, Let's Dance. His most recent book, Sofisticated White Trash (Interior Noise Press) is available wherever you happen to buy books these days. You'll find him most days bitching about something he only cares about on his blog, evil delights (evildelights.blogspot.com).
