FOR THE REST OF US
Someday they will build monuments
For those who begged on corners
And dedicate a holiday
To the ones who failed at love
And award gold-plated prizes
In honor of broken dreamers
And hold a moment of silence
For the souls who died alone
And when that day arises
When the unsung are remembered
Who straggled at the bitter end
Of life’s mad marathon
I hope that from the gardens
Of the heaven they were promised
They will hear the world applauding
Just because they were alive
Someday they will build monuments
For those who begged on corners
And dedicate a holiday
To the ones who failed at love
And award gold-plated prizes
In honor of broken dreamers
And hold a moment of silence
For the souls who died alone
And when that day arises
When the unsung are remembered
Who straggled at the bitter end
Of life’s mad marathon
I hope that from the gardens
Of the heaven they were promised
They will hear the world applauding
Just because they were alive
