Richard Schnap- A Poem

PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE

Some things seem destined to end
A stereo that suddenly stops working
A song fading down into silence
A lover who wants to move on

And you know in your heart it’s over
The machine is broken beyond repair
The words now belong to the wind
The voice on the phone is a stranger’s

Yet still you search for a way
To reawaken the lost music
To find a melody as sweet
To believe it’s not the last kiss

As you try to rekindle the flame
With a model whose price seems doubled
With a version that’s not the same
With a pen running out of ink
