Town and Country: Three Tankas
August 2010
Couple paddling by,
Canoe caught in golden glint,
Cool August evening.
Without other evidence
He assumes they are in love.
Battle
of Wits
Chipmunks foraging
Under the new bird feeder
Tries to climb pole,
Senses the baffle, turns back,
Smarter than you would have thought.
Big Box
Wal-Mart,
nine
a.m.:
Aisles empty, almost cheerful,
Mammoth TV screens
Side-by-side, all but unwatched:
Yesterday’s football highlights.
