Tom Hatch- A Poem

Sound Landing

The landing of sound on some things
sound lands on
passions which are sometimes in a jar or a shooting stars
your shoeless feet the sound landing on your toes under the sand

Two second phrases with a moth leaning on an unlit candle
The sound on the table cloth with a vase of blossoms
cradled red and green apples
in a small white bowl a long time ago from Cezanne

the sound landing on nobody
looking over my shoulder
seeing yourself in a mirror the sound disappearing as you turn away
the stuck song in your head the sound landing when you stop hearing it

the sound on a glass of scotch on the rocks after having two
the sound when that one is empty sitting next to a harmonica

the sound landing on this page as I wrote this and you read it
the sound of a clasp just before you adjust it in your hair

The sound on a yellow balloon just before it pops
blowing in a breeze
the sound of the sea that is the sound that lands on
That sound

Tom paid his dues in the SoHo art scene way back when. He was awarded two NEA grants for sculpture back then. And taught at various colleges and universities in the NYC metro area in art (including Princeton and U of Penn. in Philly). He is a regular at The Camel Saloon and BoySlut. He had recently published at The Mind[less] Muse, Jellyfish Whispers, Napalm and Novocain and Dead Snakes among others. He lives in CT with a few farms up and down the road works in Manhattan. His train ride to and from NYC is his solace, study and den where it all begins and ends.
